Två dagar i New York och redan har årets NMUN-delegation från Jönköping hunnit med en massa shoping, Times Sq, Frihetsgudinnan och financial district bara för att nämna några saker!

Alla är rörande överens om att denna stad är helt fantastisk och förväntningarna inför den stundande konferensen och utmaningen med att försöka skriva så bra resolutioner som möjligt är höga!

Jönköping i New York

Då var det äntligen dags igen!

Internationella handelshögskolan i Jönköping skickar iväg sin delegation till världens största FN simulering som årligen hålls i New York och i FN’s högkvarter. Fem tusen förväntansfulla och engagerade studenter från alla värdlsdelar kommer att träffas i fem dagar 19-23:e april för att diskutera aktuella händelser och problem som världens länder på ett eller annat sätt är delaktiga i. Vi kommer att representera för första gången ett nordiskt land, Finland.

Förberedelserna började med de första stegen i november och har pågått ända fram tills idag. Studenterna har studerat sina FN kommiteer, debaterat, övat i att hålla tal, kompromissa, skriva resolutioner, läsa rapporter och konventioner. Sex månaders av förberedelser skall nu sättas i praktik.

Följ med påvår resa och låt dig inspireras av NMUN - National Model United Nations och världens största FN simulering, av morgondagens ledare, idag.

2011 – Finland.

It’s official, the JIBS NMUN 2011 delegation will be representing Finland, Sweden’s eastern neighbour. I have a feeling we will be relying heavily on this website:

It’s a new School year and the 2011 Delegation is taking over the NMUN website and have already made many improvements for the better (I hope).

New York New York….and of course NMUN 09

It is about 7 pm here in New York now and I’m sitting at the lobby at Sheraton New York, which is our hotel and the host for the conference.

The conference is over for some committees but not for all, me(Cigdem) and Matilda are in the General Assembly Plenary so we still have a last session at the UN building tomorrow before the closing ceremony. The conference is absolutly amazing, so much people and best of all; there are so many who are really good at what they are doing. The ones who are really good have skills that are, well this is how I think, much better then just good. The days have been passing really fast but still it feels like we have been here for 2 och 3 weeks. Me, Matilda, Martina and Linda arrived in New York the 31st of March.

The first days passed with New York tours and shopping, it was a good start on our trip. When the conference days arrived we really felt that we didint have time to do anything else.My head delegate meetings started at 7.30am and the sessions for General Assembly at 8.30am, the second day we had session until 11.45 pm and came to our rooms to get som rest at 12.30 am, this was actually because we had to finish a working paper we were writing with other African States.Hard work gives rewards and today our draft resolution passed by the committe to be a resolution.

The Opening ceremony at the United Nations building, in the great hall, was amazing. We had Under Secretary General speaking and also another speaker which was sent there by the Secratary General Ban Ki-Moon. Unfortuanetly he could not come because of his busy schedule. During the speeches some people fell asleep and other listened with great interest. ( The ones who fell asleep did that because they were really exhausted).

Yesterday we had mandatory lectures with guest speakers, it was also awsome. I went to one about Media and UN coverage. The guest speakers were journalists who worked for CNN, FoxNews, Al Jazeera English and CBS. Among others, John Hackett, Richard Both and Pamela S. Falk were there. ( my appolagies if I have spelt the names wrongly).

Everything has just been great since the first days beside the weather! We though that the spring was here, but did not realize until the 3rd day that it was still winter/early spring here. And worst of all it did SNOW today! How crazy isnt that?! The funny part is that the weather will be great on sunday, the day we arrive in Gothenburg…

So this is what I have to report from New York, Unites States.

Hi guys! We’ve finally arrived in New York as well. Took the shuttle bus to get to Sheraton and can really recomend it. The driver, the first New yorker we met, was slightly crazy, but in a good way Although we haven’t been able to see as much as Kajsa and Elin we’ve been to the (outside of) Rockefeller Centre and Times Square. Tried out the coffee at starbucks (excellent) and checked out the View at Marriot. Right now we’re sitting at a launch party for a photoexhibition by Madonna in Brooklyn, only in New York eh?

Report from The Widget Hotel!

Report from the firstcommers to NYC from the NMUN JIBS team! Kajsa Hansson and Elin Berlin! We have made sure that everything is all right for the rest of you guys, so welcome to a fantastic NYC! We are at present occupying the 5 star hotel Widget! We have a double room with really nice view, great kitchen, common room with free internet and international neighbours! Unfortunately we have to move to Sheraton on saturday, but we will be fine and we are really looking forward to the conference!

We have enjoyed three days here in the awesome city, and seen Times Square, Ground Zero, Wall Street, Rockerfeller center, central park, china town, soho…and much more! We have also managed to april fool part of the delegation yesterday, we guess you know who you are! It has to do with a certain celebrity!

We will update you guys who are reading this with some fresh stories soon again! We can tell you that we went to see a sweating Sebastian Tellier live yesterday! Thanks Linda!!!

My first thoughts

Well, the first time I write something on this blog or any blog. I will put up a video diary also on the www.Jibsontour.se .

I am Gabriel, the Faculty Advisor for the NMUN and have been working with this course at JIBS which is still an exclusive course not only for JIBS but also for the entire nation. Needless to say is that I am proud to work with students who are so motivated to sacrifice more than five months and pay much money to something that lasts only for a few days.

NMUN, National Model United Nations, is the largest simulation of United Nations in the world; In the world. This year, an estimation of 4,500 students from all continents will come together during these few days to discuss important topics, representing all nations around this globe and hopefully come to conclusions by negotiations, using diplomacy and public speaking.

My role as their Faculty Advisor has been to guide them through these months and it has not been an easy task for me. I need to support all students individually and at the same time work with all to make a strong delegation, because when they are in New York, they are no longer considered students, but delegates to represent a nation and its interests. This year they represent The Republic of Tunisia.

Much is demanded by a student but NMUN demands much much more, and I demand the most. The process to educate one from a student to a delegate of a foreign nation in just a few months is not easy. The students of course have a lot to study, much to understand and to confront his or her own ideas of truth and replace this with something else. Public speaking with the language of a diplomat and at the same time understand and know how to write resolutions are example of what the students will learn.

Well, the moment of truth is about to come. The fifth of April is the start of the 2009 NMUN conference, heads up for Tunisia!
